If you book the self-drive option, yes — a valid Swiss boat licence is required. If you book with our captain, no licence is needed at all. The captain handles the driving so you can focus on having fun.

No experience needed at all. Our captain knows how to set up the perfect wave for beginners and will guide you through every step. Most people are up and riding within their first session.

All bookings are weather-dependent. If the conditions on Lake Zug are not safe or enjoyable, we will contact you in advance and reschedule to another date. Your safety always comes first and there is no penalty for weather-related rescheduling.

It is very easy. There is a direct train from Zürich HB to Zug that takes about 20 minutes. From Zürich by car it is around 35 minutes. Parking is available onsite.

Everything you need for a great day on the water: wakesurf boards, a wakeboard, tow ropes, life vests in all sizes, a sound system with Bluetooth, and a bimini sun shade.

The boat comfortably fits up to 12 people. It is perfect for groups of friends, families, or team events. Contact us if you have a larger group and we will find the best solution for you.

Yes! If you do not have a full group, join our waitlist for group sessions. We will match you with other riders and let you know when the next session is happening. A great way to meet other people who love watersports.

We recommend wearing your bathing suit and bringing a towel, water, and a hat. Sunscreen is also a good idea — the sun on the lake can be strong. Everything else (boards, vests, ropes) is included.

Renting a Boat on Lake Zug — Everything You Need to Know

Boat rental on Lake Zug

When you rent a boat with WakeSurfZug, the whole wakeboat is yours for a half or full day — not a shared seat, the entire boat. Choose self-drive if you hold a Swiss boating licence (Category A), or rent a boat with our captain and no licence is needed. Boards, vests, sound system and fuel are all included, so all you bring is your group and your swimwear. It's the easiest way to rent a boat on Lake Zug and get straight onto the water.

The best summer activity

A day on the lake is one of the most memorable things you can do in a Swiss summer — social, active and relaxed all at once. Surf a few sets, swim in clear water, lie on the sundeck, share food and drinks, and watch the afternoon go by. Whether it's a birthday, a team day, or just friends and family together, renting a boat turns an ordinary weekend into the day everyone talks about.

A beautiful way to see Swiss nature

There's no better way to experience this part of Switzerland than from the middle of the lake. Renting a boat puts you right in the scenery — crystal-clear alpine water below you, the green slopes of Mt. Rigi rising on one side, and open sky in every direction. It's a side of Switzerland most visitors never reach: quiet, wide-open and genuinely wild, just a short drive from the city.

Close to Zürich & Lucerne

Lake Zug sits right in central Switzerland, which makes our boat rental one of the most convenient anywhere near the big cities. Walchwil is roughly 35 minutes by car from both Zürich and Lucerne, with parking on site, and about 15 minutes by bus from Zug station. You can leave the city in the morning and be surfing your first wave before lunch.

What makes a wakeboat special

This isn't an ordinary rental boat. A wakeboat is purpose-built to shape a clean, surfable wave — ballast tanks, a wake tower and the right hull — so anyone can learn to wakesurf or wakeboard behind it, no experience required. Our Axis T-23 also doubles as the ultimate day boat: a big sundeck, comfortable seating for the whole group, and a proper sound system for the soundtrack to your day.

Why Lake Zug is special

While Lake Zürich and Lake Lucerne fill up with boat traffic every summer, Lake Zug stays calm, deep and clear — exactly what you want for both surfing and a peaceful day out. Switzerland Tourism even lists it among the country's top lakes for wakesurfing. Renting a boat here means real space on the water and Alpine views all to yourself, without the crowds you'll find almost everywhere else near Zürich.
